About

My obsession with well written content began at 11 years old when I read my first Stephen King novel. I highlighted typos in The Stand with a yellow marker and sent my copy to the publisher. I never did hear back from Signet, but I had a lot of fun and I was hooked.

I’ve worked in many different capacities (server, visa and immigration clerk, underwriting assistant, shipper/receiver etc.,) and the one thing almost all of the positions I’ve held had in common was writing.

Writing was not always part of my job – but I always volunteered to write the Policy and Procedure manuals, the new hire manuals, the in-house software manuals, and training materials because I really enjoyed it.

Poorly written material, be it marketing material, orientation manuals, presentations or software manuals etc., makes work seem more like work and less like an accomplishment.

I have an B.A. in English Literature from the University of Ottawa and a certificate in Business and Technical Writing from the Vancouver Community College. I am also a member of the Society for Technical Communication (STC) Canada West Coast chapter.

This September 2008, I am branching out and taking Introduction to Programming Basics course and a PHP Programming course at the University of British Columbia (there will be updates on the blog about that!).

When I’m not writing or organizing content, I can be found reading books (I’m on a Brontë and Dickens kick right now), puttering around in my herb garden or taking sword fighting lessons.
